Censorship does not only make content invisible.
It also targets the memory that it ever existed.
Silinmedi is an independent archive preserving journalistic content in Türkiye that has been blocked, removed or disappeared from the public sphere.
Recording the decisions is not enough. We also need to preserve which news reports, articles and testimonies were made invisible.
An archive is only an archive for as long as it remains accessible.
Why support?
A link is blocked. A news report is removed. The news cycle moves on.
What often remains are broken links and gaps in public memory.
Silinmedi investigates these gaps, verifies them and, whenever possible, preserves the content itself.
What does your support make possible?
The archive's research and verification work, technical infrastructure, security and backups, tools that allow journalists to add their own work, and the long term documentation of digital censorship.
Independence is a condition
Silinmedi's editorial decisions are not determined by funders or institutions.
Support does not buy a say in the archive.
Let's work together
We are open to collaboration with foundations, libraries, universities, research institutions and journalism organisations working on press freedom, access to information, digital rights and public memory.
Because being invisible does not mean it is gone.
